Perforation of the Aorta by Swallowed Fish Bone

چکیده
Impaction of foreign bodies in the gullet is of frequent occurrence; but fatal perforation of the aorta by such bodies is an extremely rare complication. In a review of 602 cases of foreign bodies in the oesophagus by Matteson (1949) no such complication has been recorded. So far as may be gathered from the Indian Medical Literature, no case similar to ours has been previously reported and hence there seems to be justification for the following general remarks, a summary of the cases previously reported in other countries and a case report.

Aorto-oesophageal fistula and aortic pseudoaneurysm caused by a swallowed fish bone.
We describe a rare case of aorto-oesophageal fistula and aortic pseudoaneurysm in a middle-aged man, who presented with chest pain and haematemesis 1 week after swallowing a fish bone. Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy and computed tomographic angiography findings were consistent with oesophageal perforation, proximal descending aortic pseudoaneurysm, and aorto-oesophageal fistula. Thoracic endovascu...

We report a case of lung abscess caused by an ingested fish bone that was successfully treated by minimally invasive surgery. Although cases of ingested foreign body abscess are well reported, lung abscess caused by ingested fish bone is extremely rare. To date, less than 10 similar cases have been reported in the literature. To the best of our knowledge, the case presented in this case report ...

They occur in emotionally disturbed, depressed, or mentally retarded patients who have trichotillomania and trichophagia. Trichobezoars are usually diagnosed on CT scan or upper GI endoscopy. They can give rise to complications like gastroduodenal ulceration, haemorrhage, perforation, peritonitis, ...

Figure 1: The patient underwent an emergency oesophageal endoscopy after swallowing a fish bone. At oesophagoscopy, a fish bone situated 25 cm from the incisors was removed uneventfully. Seven days later, she developed retrosternal pain and haematemesis. She vomited 200 ml of bright red blood. Bilateral oesophageal perforations with local fester were found 25 cm away from the incisors in oesoph...
